6:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m.
Join us on Wednesday, April 24th at 6:00 p.m. in the Emerson Library Conference Room at Webster University for our annual Spring Speaker Series! We are excited to welcome this year’s speaker, Saint Louis University Archivist Emeritus, John Waide! The topic of his presentation will be:
The 1949 St. Louis Exorcism: Seventy Years Later
John Waide, Saint Louis University Archivist Emeritus
Although millions of people have either read The Exorcist book or seen the movie, relatively few people are aware that the events depicted are based on a series of real-life events. These events occurred in 1949, and some of them took place in St. Louis, including at Saint Louis University. This presentation will provide information about the principal individuals who were part of the exorcism event, a description of some of the “troubles” which befell the young man suffering from the possession, and explore why there is continued interest in this event 70 years after it occurred.
